Strawberry Picking on a Cool Saturday

I woke to the cooing of a singing bird on a Saturday morning. We slept off past our usual bedtime the previous night, but I was surprised to have opened my eyes at the usual time. I was enthusiastic and vibrant to the thought that it is going to be a beautiful day. I set off immediately to the farmer's market, a junction for fruits, vegetables, plants and flowers. The road was empty, and I just whished ahead, consciously oblivious to the speed limit. I was happy to have grabbed a few bags of Okra, a highly scarce vegetable at the store. I reached back home to hear the "ammaaaa" cry of my Liliput. Happy I was to see the empty and clean sink with the fully loaded dishwater splashing around water quietly! The perfect helping hand of mine had already set off with preparations for the fun-filled day. After nibbling our favorites hurriedly, we happily arrived at the Linvilla Orchards, located a few miles away from our abode. The empty parking lot said it all, "You guys are early". Walked around a bit to gather information about the festival, the cake show, singing and dancing events.
A Few Bright Colors in the Orchard

Shortly, a friend's family joined us for strawberry picking.

Hay Bundles
We all set off for a hay ride in tractors with spacious wagons. The brain was doing its job of comparing the event with those bullock-cart rides back home. With giggles and wiggles, we reached the strawberry orchard.

Little ones in Strawberry Field

The enthusiastic young ones did not need instructions, and they were careful and choosy to pick the red, succulent and delicious strawberries.

The cool weather, the open farm, pleasant morning light, the gently swaying wind and the wonderful strawberries made the day perfect. As usual, I started asking with the co-pickers about their plans with the strawberries. A few told jams, jellies, cakes, smoothies, and the rest were happy to eat them all as they are. I got a few recipes to make frozen jams that can be used year round.

They were Perfect

My Liliput was cruising through the farm from one end to the other like a plum. Her baby pink shoes turned strawberry-colored, and not only shoes, she turned into different shades of red from top to toe. The older one had a perfect company, and he was talking up a storm.

Constantly gulping the picked strawberries, the whole family reached the event area of the orchard. There were songs, dances, bubbles and many more fun events for the kids. We were eagerly waiting for the popular strawberry shortcake that has been there once every year for over 100 years now. It was beautiful, delectable and perfect.

This has been a ritual for 100 years

That was a perfect day with good food, feasty sights and healthy fruits! Soon there were indications from kids to returning home immediately. The moment they were strapped in their seats, they fell asleep. The quiet family reached home around half past noon. Took a short nap, downloaded the pictures and now looking forward to a very productive evening. Hope you all had a great Saturday!
